About Baptism
The doors of St. Luke's are open to anyone who wants to find or be found by God. If you are looking for a place to have your child baptized, you are welcome. If you are an adult seeking a deeper connection with God, you are welcome. Here you will hear the Good News - that you are now and always have been truly loved by God - period. There are no hurdles to jump, nor tests to pass. However, becoming a member of the church involves a commitment from you to Christ and to the Church, as well as a commitment from the members of St. Luke's to you. There is a preparation process to help you be sure you want to make that commitment and uphold the promises that go with it. Arrangements for preparation and baptism are made by talking with an ordained clergy person. It is required that we renounce Satan, repent of our sins, and accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Why then are infants baptized?
Infants are baptized so that they can share citizenship in the Covenant, membership in Christ, and redemption by God. How are the promises for infants made and carried out?
Promises are made for them by their parents and sponsors, who guarantee that the infants will be brought up within the Church, to know Christ and be able to follow him. |
